English Literature

Literature and descriptions of english authors. Literature is the reflection of life. It mirrors the society in which it is generated. The word literature comes from the Latin word ‘litaritura’ meaning “writing organized with letters”.

English literature:

is about written works in the English language by inhabitants of the British Isles (including Ireland) from the 7th century to the present day. The major literatures in English outside the British Isles are treated separately under:

  • American literature
  • Australian literature
  • Canadian literature
  • New Zealand literature

English literature has sometimes been stigmatized as insular.
